New Menu at The Bricklayers – Ashley Cross

Having launched its new menu last month the refurbished Bricklayers pub in Ashley Cross has enjoyed a 100% record of five-star reviews on TripAdvisor.

As well as daily specials, superb Sunday roasts and hearty weekend breakfasts, the Brickies offers tempting morning coffee treats and a mouth watering main menu of pub favourites with a contemporary edge as the famous old Parr Street local continues its 21st century reawakening.

But what’s really setting the menu apart is the large selection of British and continental tapas-style sharing plates.

“This is exactly what the Brickies is all about,” says owner Jan Crump. “It brings families and the community together and our sharing plates are ideal for groups of friends and relatives, or mates on a night out to sit and nibble as they chat and enjoy themselves.

Other foodie highlights include homemade croquettes that are proving a real winner with the locals, as are the salt and pepper calamari and fresh tiger prawns.

“Wait until you try the artisan pies as well,” adds Jan. “They are out of this world, proper winter warmers and all made with the best ingredients from local suppliers, most of which are within walking distance of the pub.”

Brickies chef Angela Ellis has created a well-defined repertoire of dishes that blend flavour, texture and thoughtful presentation in ways few other pub menus can compete with. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free dishes are well represented and several dishes can be served as alternative options on request.

“We’re here to help; just ask,” says Jan. “The Brickies is a very old name in Ashley Cross – the first pub opened here in 1833 – and its reputation for a warm welcome is second to none. We’re pulling out all the stops to live up to that heritage and we’re really proud of our menu of home-made dishes made with locally-sourced produce.

“Add to that a full range of local real ales and ciders as well as a wide choice of lagers, wines and, in keeping with the pub’s emphasis on botanicals, a gin menu that’s second to none, The Brickies is definitely back with a bang.”

Since reopening, The Brickies has already played host to several family parties, group events, baby showers, christening parties and wakes, producing menus appropriate to each occasion.

The pub is now taking bookings for its tasty Christmas Party Menu that runs until 5 January with traditional turkey alongside sirloin of beef, sea bass fillet or nut roast; or for a more relaxed gathering there are special festive editions of the local cheese and charcuterie boards.
