DORSET FOOD NETWORK
Uniting the Local Food Community
Dorset Food Network provides a platform for local people and visitors to discover the amazing produce and services available right here in Dorset. We bring all aspects of the Dorset food industry together in one large web-based community.
There really isn’t much in terms of food or drink that isn’t grown, made and sold here in Dorset and we are going to shout about it so that everybody knows.
Who Are We
Firstly and most importantly there are our wonderful members who make up the network without whom this site would not exist.
Then there’s me. Hi…. I’m Jon. There are only two things you need to know about me. One; I love food and two; I love where I live!
Dorset Food Network began towards the end of 2015. The whole idea started at a food festival when I discovered so many local businesses all doing amazing things, many of whom were based within 10 miles of where I lived, yet I had travelled over 30 miles to find them. As somebody who loves food and is very passionate about supporting local businesses, this seemed ridiculous to me. Why had I not heard of these businesses and their products before?
With that, I started a very average blog and set out to meet some of our local business owners and find out what they thought was required to help them connect with their local community. I learned a lot and several local business owners and employees were kind enough to afford me plenty of their time and experience which enabled me to take Dorset Food Network from an idea to a functioning, information service supporting our local food businesses. Some of those businesses went on to become our Founder Members and now we are ready to get this show on the road.
Our members come from all over Dorset and range from small artisan producers to restaurants and farm shops. They all meet the high standards required for membership and are dedicated to supporting their local businesses and the community.
Dorset Food Network brings all aspects of the Dorset food industry and the local people together. Every contributor from farmer to consumer can connect as we strive to develop and secure a sustainable food and drink community in Dorset. The best way to do this is to encourage the success of our local businesses by shopping locally and keeping our money in the local economy.
Our Corporate Partners support the day to day running of Dorset Food Network and the services we offer. They are also available to provide support to our members.
Dorset Food Network proudly supports two local charities. Both charities provide much needed services in the local area and without public support and fund-raising would not be able to do what they do. We are so pleased that we are able to help raise awareness for such worthy causes.
